Who is Jesus?

He is the Christ. The King whom God had promised to send to establish His kingdom of righteousness and love. He is also the Son of God. God himself, who came to this world as a man. Jesus proved who he was by what he did, he healed the sick, raised the dead, multiplied the food, etc.

By doing these things, the King has revealed a glimpse into the life of His kingdom. A perfect place, without suffering or fear of death. This is the world we all want.

Why did Jesus come? To be rejected

However, many people rejected Jesus. They thought they would be happier creating their own rules and living outside of His kingdom. Rejecting the king is something we all do. Jesus calls it sin.

It destroys our lives and causes us to be separated from the joy of being in the kingdom.

God will not allow those who rejected the King to live with Him. So we will have to deal with what Jesus calls hell. A life without anything good, for eternity.

Why did Jesus come? To die

The people rejected the King so violently that they put him to death by nailing him to a cross. But his death was not a mistake for God - it was an extraordinary act.

On the cross, Jesus found himself separated from the presence of God and from His love. He chose to experience hell - so we don't. The Sinless King took the punishment for sin that we deserved.

Jesus opened the way to His kingdom.

Why did Jesus come? To resuscitate

Three days after his death, his grave was found empty. In the weeks that followed, many people ate with Jesus, dozens of people spoke with him. Hundreds of people saw it. Death could not hold back Jesus, the King.

He is risen!

What does this mean for us?

So today Jesus invites people to come to His kingdom. He asks us to repent and believe in the gospel.

Repentance means changing our behavior, living for Jesus and more for ourselves. Believing involves putting our trust in what Jesus did everything to enable us to have a place in His kingdom.

Living with Jesus the King is not easy. Those who follow him will be rejected, just as he was. But they also live a life of deep security, satisfaction, joy in the knowledge of God, of His forgiveness, of His power. The Holy Spirit sustains us and gives us the joy of looking forward to Christ's return when He comes to establish His eternal Kingdom of love.

Jesus offers this to anyone who repents and believes.
