Who we are today is the result of our past decisions, or lack thereof. Too often we forget this truth to hide behind excuses, saying that it is because of circumstances or other people that our situation is what it is now. Which is wrong, because if we can't control what happens to us, we have the ability to determine how we respond to it. It's about knowing how to position ourselves in the right way, about making decisions that will allow us to be who we are called to be tomorrow...
In this verse, Paul begins by saying “beloved brethren,” which allows us to lay an important foundation when it comes to making decisions. We are children of God and perfectly loved by the Father. Which means that we do not make a decision to be loved, but simply because we are loved. It is also about recognizing that we are not trying to be someone either, because we are sons and daughters of the King of kings, our identity is in Him. It is because you are a child of God that you make decisions.
Our decisions are based on our position as followers of Christ. Knowing how to be firm and unwavering is not to compromise on our position. To know that nothing and no one can separate us from the love of God manifested in Christ (cf. Romans 8:39). Whatever the tests or the pressures, our choices are never in the reaction, but in the action. It's about always being proactive and nothing should stop us from doing so.
Always progressing in the work of the Lord, this does not let anything that is outside determine our choices… We make decisions according to what we know must be tomorrow, namely men and women of faith, of those who write history, are blessings and influences for the love of God to be manifested. It is with eyes fixed on eternity and hearts rooted in the love of Christ that we make our decisions, even the most mundane.
This way of life gives us the assurance that what we do is not in vain, that it bears fruit for the glory of our God. Remember, you are loved by God, you are his child, your identity is in him, you are his partner for his kingdom to come. So be firm in these truths and have the courage to make the decisions to live the life He has planned for you and be a blessing to your world.
God has blessed you richly so that you bless abundantly ...
